I baked a big pack of chicken thighs, chopped them up and put it on salads (cut up your own lettuce). Lots of fried cabbage with sausage. Fried eggs. Peanut butter as a snack if needed. Big pot of zucchini and sausage soup. It worked:) 177 Reply @Caeleinn 6 years ago I was so happy to find out that pecans are a definite "can eat" on Keto. I have about 14 pecan trees on my property and we are going to be harvesting pretty soon. We always have pecans in our deep freezer (yep, I'm from the South, too) and I was snacking on some earlier this evening. In case people are unaware, the smaller the pecan, the sweeter the nut meat. The larger ones can sometimes be a bit bitter. 21 Reply @Irish_Lass2024 2 years ago Actually, studies have found that frozen veggies contain more nutrients because they are flash frozen not long after being picked, while fresh veggies can travel on a truck for several days during transport, to get them to our grocery store, and they have lost some of their nutrients during that time. I find steamed frozen veggies really tasty. If you're careful, they can steam cook well and not end up soggy or gross. 5 Reply @craftyHPLover367 5 years ago I buy a 10# log of ground beef at Wal-Mart for $20, then buy Ziploc baggies and separating them into .25 or .5# portions 20 Reply @donnablair5507 6 years ago (edited) I purchase 3 lb of ground beef and make taco meat and hamburger patties to freeze. Make taco salad. Throw your burger with mayo, mustard, onion ,cheese on a pile of lettuce. Tear a rotisserie chicken into 4 parts and add brocolli, Brussels sprouts in for 4 meals. Walmart has prepared uncured pulled pork for about 5 bucks, good for 4 meals. Make Keto kfc cole slaw to go with. Fry some shredded cheese and add pizza toppings. 86 Reply @ulverstone26 2 years ago I was so frightened that I was just a hopeless case and was going to just die early because no matter what I do my weight balloons and my hypertension goes thru the roof. This has given me hope. Thank you. 4 Reply @timschafer8935 6 years ago egg shells are good to use growing tomatoes 39 Reply @cathumphrey5949 6 years ago (edited) Just an observation: As I passed a church while it was setting up their Food Pantry, something stood out: ALL of the people waiting to receive a Food Box were overweight or obese. NONE of the volunteers were. Not a single one. (The boxes seemed to contain ALL processed/refined foods.) 6 Reply @alexr6114 1 year ago Pecans are the most expensive nut in most of the US. When I lived in Texas, I could pick them in the park for free! 2 Reply @oldtymer9106 5 years ago (edited) Great tips. I think I'm gonna be eating a lot of eggs, chicken legs, pecans, ground beef and spinach. Spent all day yesterday watching keto videos psyching myself up. If I can lose just 40lbs I'll have a huge wardrobe to wear and will feel semi normal again. Thanks Doc. I watched the ad so you'll make some πŸ’°! 23 Reply @sagittarian1955 6 years ago I had to smile when you talked about sardines. I can't stand the smell, either! My middle son, however, developed a taste for them, thanks to my ex-father-in-law. I would buy them for him, but he had to eat them outside, then wash the can & put it in the trash, lol. He could only eat them inside if I wasn't home. He told me once that he liked sardine & peanut butter sandwiches (yuck, right?). I asked him why pb instead of mustard or mayo? His answer....the pb kept the sardines from sliding off the bread! 74 Reply @junegraham5753 11 months ago Thank you Dr. Berry I am following this in 2024 to a T as we say in Canada. Not on any meds I'm 70 this month and work full-time as a Nurse, love my job, when I refrain from eating sugar I am not getting migraines or headaches as much. This shopping list is great. I try not to miss any of your videos but I guess I missed this one. I been following you for a few years. Happy New Year 2024 to you & your beautiful wife all the Best❤ 1 Reply @remoorekable 6 years ago (edited) I love this video! I’m an Oscar Mayer bacon snob. I get it in bulk at Sam’s. I buy whole chickens from Aldi for around $5. $5!! I roast it with a green vegetable and an orange vegetable. Seriously, you can’t eat cheaper at Burger King and it’s made from scratch and soooo much healthier. It’s not even any harder than throwing a pizza in the oven. 46 Reply @patrice6137 2 years ago I have rewatched the Keto 101 playlist a few times but it was the first time that I watched this particular video. There is no doubt that he knows what he is talking about & keeps it simple but the statement that he said about this video being for the ppl who are focusing on paying the rent and keeping their car is what made me adore this man and not to mention being from Tn. Lol 3 Reply @annadreamsart9756 5 years ago Thank you! I've used the eggshells in bone broth for years. If you add a tsp of vinegar it helps them dissolve. I believe they're almost all calcium. 27 Reply @hotwheel6663 6 years ago Bacon grease liquid gold! Love it. 8 Reply @JamesWoodsWorld 6 years ago Out of all the channels I am subscribed to, you are the only one that respects the fact not everyone is rolling in the dough. Thanks for helping people make smart choices regardless of their bank account. One food that is cheap and under rated is peanuts. The little legume that often gets confused as a nut, poor guy does not know what it is. I am on a low carb intermittent fasting diet, and very often eat one meal a day. I get 90 percent of my carbs from veggies. I eat peanuts often and I am still losing weight. I know many people will not eat them because of the carbs, but with 12 grams of dietary fiber in a serving they clean me out. I am not suggesting people eat them, but what is your thoughts on peanuts? I searched your channel and dont recall you mentioning them. Love your channel Doc, keep on keeping. 67 Reply @710LENNY 5 years ago Bless you for mentioning home canning. I have been hot water canning for about half a century, and last year discovered pressure canning. I have become addicted to it. It gives you a shelf stable product that can last years, and you are not paying for the hydro to keep food frozen. I only have a small electric pressure canner (4 pints per load, or 6 half pints), I can buy a whole turkey, can the bigger chunks of meat (raw pack or cooked meat) and use the bones for my bone broth, which I also can. Buy a whole ham. East what you want fresh, and can the rest. From trial and error, found we prefer our veggies fresh or frozen, but there are great deals at farmer's markets in the fall. One last thing - you cannot pressure can food in an Instant Pot. It must be labeled a pressure canner. 4 Reply @keylimekisses 6 years ago You are awesome! One of my favorite budget friendly meals is Kirkland canned wild caught sockeye salmon mix with one egg salt and pepper, 1/2 C ground pork rinds make them into patties and fry in Ghee or butter with a small side of softened cream cheese and pecans to dip in the cream cheese. Thanks for always keeping it real we need more amazing doctors like you in the world. 29 Reply @busymama212 6 years ago Who else had a weight watchers ad before this video? πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ i'm so glad i found this guy! He finally helped me make my mind up to reverse my type 2 diabetes with keto! Thanks!!! πŸ˜ƒ 11 Reply @urbancaveman 6 years ago Gardening is another way to save some money in the summer months! It's also a great way to get some sunshine, and reduce stress. Last year I harvested 75 pounds of tomatoes ($300 worth at Canadian grocery store prices), 30 pounds of potatoes ($50 worth), and 7 large butternut squash. I didn't do tomatoes this year, but so far I've harvested about 75 pounds of pumpkin/squash. Still haven't dug up the potatoes or carrots. All it costs me is time, and maybe $10-$15 for seeds in the spring. 2 Reply @johncoffman2703 6 years ago Love it we buy bulk eggs, bacon and vacuum packaged meats. We even get the pork and beef mix instead of just beef. Cheaper and great taste. 15 Reply @carleneatkinson8076 2 years ago I am aware that this video is old but you’re are a God sent. I was just told my A1C and should stop my Metformin and now is spiking high and low, I am now taking your very wise advice and save my life and body function.❤️ 1 Reply @ballyea1 6 years ago Oh my goodness, Dr. Berry , I just got your book (very excited to read it). I am in remission from Independent ACTH Cushing's Disease. I went from 127lbs to 280+lbs in SIX MONTHS. After I (NOT my Dr.) insisted on cortisol saliva test after breaking my pelvis (from hypercalcimia) and all the weight gain, they finally diagnosed Cushing's & found a 4.97cm adrenal adenoma & both the tumor & R adrenal were removed in March 2014. After years on steroids (for my 1 adrenal) I'm FINALLY feeling good (and off ALL meds) and have been doing keto because my weight loss had stalled. In total I've lost 101lbs, and 50 of that on keto. Love ALL your videos (especially about NAFLD as I have that also due to "visceral adipose' tissue around organs caused by Cushing's Disease). Thank you so much for all your videos. I am DEFINITELY checking out the next Facebook live event! Take Care & Best Regards Jennifer. :) 1 Reply @brandyh3536 11 months ago One thing that I love about you and Neisha is that yall are always so matter of fact about things. So many people shame you for not eating grass fed, local farm raised organic. And while, yes it is important, you can still start to get a handle on your health until you can do better. And i love that i don't feel like a piece of shit because i chose conventional ground beef over paying my car payment. Yall make better health feel obtainable to the overwhelmed majority of the population. Thank you. Reply @marywyrick4520 6 years ago Ive been Keto for some months now and I just love it when I hear Dr Berry talk about eating bacon. I LOVE Bacon. I eat a ton of it. 7 Reply @gordonredwood3909 6 years ago Talk to your butcher, get fat trimmings and organs {offal}. Bone broth, cheap and easy way to stretch the budget. I grew up POOR, when we butchered, we used everything except the hide and horns. There is a lot of great foods that we forgot how to eat. If I had kept doing that I would have saved myself 30 years of chronic health problems. I'm back on track now. 87 Reply @philsmith3019 4 years ago I like the message here. A lot of other keto videos try to make you feel stupid if you dont shop at pricey health food stores. They're almost reinforcing the belief that eating healthy is expensive. 1 Reply @jackiegodwin4966 6 years ago Thank you Dr Berry! Yes..this video is for me! Struggling working girl! But nun the less, ketoing and lost 35 lbs since June by folllowing your video's! Thnk you! ❤✌ 12 Reply @rosewood513 2 years ago (edited) Another option is growing your own I have a large organic vegetable garden I grow several kinds of Kale, lettuce, zucchini, and other squash and more. I grow seeds instead of buying plants since they may not be organic. I then freeze and dehydrate the excess, I buy banc pieces and get it half price and you get lots of bacon grease Reply @KWMc1952 6 years ago I do meal prep every Sunday for the upcoming week. It's kind of exhausting. But on the flip side, the only thing I have cook during the week is scrambled eggs for breakfast. So convenient. Also, I make whipped cream, add a small amount of berries and put in 2 oz. plastic containers for an occasional treat if I get hungry between meals, which I usually don't, or if I feel like I want dessert. Even though I am losing weight slowly, I feel much better having cut out grains, sugar and other high carb foods. I enjoy your videos and good advice. 12 Reply @intentionallyinpired 6 years ago Thank you for saying grass finished.
