I have coached many people to the ketogenic lifestyle.

Can dogs benefit from a keto diet in the same way as humans?
I have 8 dogs, most of them seniors. 1 has had cancer for 2 years and another has diabetes. I’ve been on the Keto diet for several years. When my cancer dog was diagnosed with colon cancer I immediately put her and all my dogs on the Keto diet. The difference is that they get raw meat, otherwise, their diet and mine is the same (except for onions and keto bread). Here’s what happened since my dogs have been on Keto:
1) they lost weight and gained muscle.
2) they cancer dog had been given only weeks to live and yet after 2 years, she’s still thriving without any other changes to her treatment.
3) the dog with diabetes has had her insulin reduces every couple of months and I hope to eventually eliminate it altogether.
4) my dog with an ACL tear replacement has finally stopped limping.
5) they all have increased energy and now RUN (used to only walk) during our daily walks.
6) They no longer have the "doggy smell".
7)They NEVER require baths unless they roll in something yucky.
8) They don't get sick and only go to the vet for annual exams.
I've been rescuing and adopting dogs for over 30 years and just wish I would have known this years ago as I'm sure the diet would have prevented illness and euthanasia in many cases.
